Ce livre réunit des essais écrits par des artistes contemporains autour d’un jeu de mots.
Pro-création visait dans un premier temps à définir un parti pris : évaluer le pourquoi de la création artistique actuelle selon des critères habituellement réservés au problème de la création. Le rapprochement création/ procréation n’est pas un débat nouveau, il est pourtant extrêmement d’actualité alors que l’ « inondation du marché » paraît pour beaucoup la seule estimation possible de l’existence de l’artiste.
Ainsi pourquoi produire ? L’œuvre peut-elle encore avoir une fonction sociale ? Trouvera-t-elle son bonheur dans le contexte historique ? Y a-t-il une responsabilité de l’artiste producteur ?

At first Pro-creation intended to define a position : to evaluate the why of current artistic creation according to criteria usually restricted to the problem of procreation. The link between creation and procreation is not a new debate, it is however an extremely contemporary question at a time when « markey inflation » seems for many the only possible estimation of the artist’s existence.
So : why produce ? Can the work still have a social function ? Will it find happiness in the historical context ? Does the artist-producer have a responsibility in all this ?
